Ashby 20

The 2013 Ashby 20 race is on Sunday 17th March at 10am, and once again is based at the Hood Park Leisure centre in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

In 2012we hit the 1,000 entry limit before race day so make sure you enter as soon as possible.

The 2013 race will again be organised by Ivanhoe Runners, and we are very proud that once again we are supported by Aldi.

The entry fee is £22 for affiliated and £24 for non-affiliated. You can enter now at Ashby 20. Entry fees on the day are as above PLUS £3, closing at 9.00am.

The race is run over 20 miles of undulating but scenic North West Leicestershire countryside. The course has been described as challenging, but is always viewed as an ideal warm-up to a spring marathon and is perfectly timed to be just five weeks before the London Marathon.

The race takes in several villages but importantly runs a couple of times through the village of Packington, just two miles from Ashby, making it ideal for spectators (the village also has an excellent pub for thirstier spectators).

We have always prided ourselves on the value the race offers, and here are some comments we received about the 2012 race:

“A very enjoyable pretty and scenic run. Well worth the run. Volunteers and Marshalls were excellent and kept you going with bottles of water, energy gels, jelly babies and chocolate. Very well organised and the goody bag was good too, worth doing the race just to get the hoody. Thanks to everyone making it an enjoyable day”.

“Great piece of work here - my favourite VLM warm-up and excellent support from the marshals and enthusiastic villagers. Recommended – especially if you edge out the gorilla...”

“My first time at Ashby (in prep for the VLM) and what a cracker it is! Excellent organisation, from the marshalling and water stations, to the great goody bag and commemorative 'hoody'. (That's right, a fleece hoody, not just a T shirt!). Well done to the organisers, Ivanhoe Running Club - I'll be back!”

“I thoroughly recommend Ashby 20 as a great tester for the London Marathon and the organisers have done yet another cracking job. After doing the run in 2009 and getting my fab blue hoodie which you see people proudly wearing at all league events, its great to get a new one this year! Coming back from an injury today, I found it hard at times, so delighted to have knocked 5 mins off my PB. As ever, very well organised, marshalls working very hard and so supportive. A real credit to you all. Well Done.”

“First class organisation that runs London close. Amazing value for the entry fee with brilliant goody bag full of food you want to eat. Great hoodie as well. Digital clock at halfway and chip timing and an announcer who does their best to call out as many names as he can in the final 100m. Great marshall’s and good visible presence out on the roads which helped the runners. Well stocked water stations. Definite highlight of the year for me”.

So, whether you are training for the London Marathon, another spring marathon or just fancy another challenging 20 mile run in pretty North West Leicestershire, get entered today !

See you on March 17th...
