Race Reports

Ivanhoe Runners filled over 25% of the field for the Corn Dolly 7, a low key race based at Hickling near Melton Mowbray and run in conjunction with the village fete. The out and back race took in B roads, fields and long stretches of canal towpath but looks a cert for next year as the food hamper team prize that Ivanhoe won was consumed before the runners left the field! Run in hot conditions and over an unusual distance, Ivanhoe "adopted" the race as part of their Grand Prix series and this guaranteed the large turnout of 22 club members.

First home in 8th place was recent addition to the club, Phil Stevenson, and he ran well for a time of 48.57. Martin Yeomans had a strong run for second club member home, clocking 50.03 in 11th place, not far ahead of Michael Sharpe 15th in 51.18 and Barry Alldread 18th in 51.59. Tim Sturla was next home in 22nd, clocking 52.47.

Bob White got the better of Roger Beaven despite the 36 mile bike warm-up, and ran well for 56.08 in 38th. Roger was 40th in 56.50, with a gap to Nicholas Lee-Smith in his first-ever race; he did well to clock 58.32 in 47th.

Ivanhoe's leading lady was Carolyn Osborne, 50th in 59.25. She was just ahead of Tracy Smith, 52nd in 61.02, and Judith Webster-Sanders who ran well to shake off the attentions of Teresa Talbott, Judith finishing 53rd in 61.27 to Teresa's 55th in 61.36. Then came three Ivanhoe Runners in quick succession. Carol Hall was next home, finishing 58th in 62.39 which was a welcome addition to the team but not as welcome as the chocolate brownies she brought for the post-race celebrations! Very close behind Carol, Karl Savill did his second race in two days and was 59th in 62.48, one second and one place ahead of Rebecca Enion 60th in 62.49.

Heather Swan clocked 65.11 (64th) ahead of Ali Sturla 65.38 (66th), while recent new member Simon Hall had a great run to finish 69th in 68.12. Kevin Sanders had a steady run round for 73rd place (70.42), in front of James Lee (75th, 72.44). Kelly Finney in her first race with the club was 88th (77.29) and ran round with Brian Gough (89th, 77.32) who managed to find a more direct race route than the route he took to the race. Mary Gough was 95th in 84.07.

Ivanhoe Runner Kev Wright has also been busy recently, doing the Runners World Trailblazer 10k on Saturday morning, in 42.26 ( 14th ) and then on the Sunday morning running the Two Castles 10k (Kenilworth and Warwick). He had a great run there, clocking a new personal best and first sub-40 minute 10k with 39.55 to finish 73rd overall.

In the Conkers Parkrun, Barry Alldread just missed his personal best as he finished 13th in 20.56, less than a minute ahead of Andy Lindley who had a great run to clock a new personal best time of 21.49 - reward for a quiet night out on Friday! Lynda Revill had an excellent run to also clock a new personal best, with 23.15 in 34th place. Karl Savill and Kevin Sanders had a late battle which Karl won finishing  53rd in 25.13 to Kevin's 55th in 25.19. Finally Richard Beldon ran 28.22 in 70th place.
