Race Reports

Twenty Ivanhoe Runners took part in the Barrow 6 miles, the second race in the 2010 Leicestershire Road Race League, and bolstered by some members missing the previous week put in fine team performances.

First home for the Club, as has become customary, was Brian Stout, running a personal best for the distance of 34.59 to finish 34th male. Andrew hough made a welcome return from a virus to finish 42nd in 35.31, and third home was Alistair Chambers 52md in 36.03. He was only just ahead of Ivor Davies in 56th, who ran very well to clock 36.18 given that he had just finished a night-shift! Matt Morgan returned to the team, and finished 58th with 36.33, and both Steve Baggott and Chris Ramsell both made the top 100 as they finished in 85th (37.47) and 93rd (38.05) respectively.

Martin Yeomans completed the eight scorers and he finished in 127th place, with a time of 39.35. This was a better team performance than at the Ashby 5 last week, and with all the scoring runners home 11 places better than at Ashby meant that the men's team finished in an excellent second place in Division Two behind Leicester Coritanians, and will continue to push for promotion into Division One. They now lie in second place overall, one point clear of Beaumont Leys. The men's veterans team also benefited and finished in fifth place in Division One, one place better than at Ashby, and lie fifth overall.

Ably supporting the scorers were a strong engine room pushing back other teams scorers. David Allford was 148th in 40.28, just over a minute ahead of Paul Harris 173rd in 41.41. Alan Edwards ran 44.50 to finish in 235th, while Sean Wileman ran 45.44 with plaster-cast (255th) and Dave Morse ran 47.35 (277th).

The women's team also put in strong performances including personal bests. With Mel Ferrie missing, joint-ladies captains Julia Blewitt-Jenkins and Carolyn Osborne put in a leading performances to finish 43rd and 45th in in times of 45.28 and 45.38 respectively. Clare Fowell was again well to the fore, and had a great run to clock 46.09. Amanda Bradbury had a storming run to clock a new personal best time of 48.11 after a personal best for five miles last week, and finished in 73rd place. The four scorers meant that the women's team were again second in Division Two after the same placing at Ashby, and are consolidating their push for promotion to Division One.

Teresa Talbott had another fine run and finished in a time of 49.51 in 94th place, just ahead of Trish McPherson 106th in 50.57. Finally, a debut run for the club from heather Swan saw her finish an excellent 130th in 54.13. The women's veterans team saw the most improvement in position from the Ashby race, finishing fourth in Division One after being sixth at Ashby.
