Ivanhoe Runners were very involved as the Burton and District summer league moved onto Race 5, the Worthington 5 miles. With most members involved in the hosting and organising of the race for the near 180 strong field, many were doubling up on pre-race duties with actually running the 5 miles. First home was Alistair Chambers, 20th overall in 31 minutes dead, just ahead of Ivor Davies having a great run to clock 31.11 in 23rd. Hot on his heels was Ramzi Sidani 26th in 31.49 followed by Richard Martin 29th in 32.07, a great run. Martin Yeomans was 50th in 33.57, another good run, with Andy Gillies 57th in 34.36. This completed the scoring six for the BDSL results, and brought the team home 4th on the night.

Ian Bolton was 62nd in 35.09 about a minute ahead of Tim Sturla 68th in 36.11, and he had Roger Beaven breathing down his neck as he finished in 36.18 in 69th place. Paul Harris was 78th (37.06), Sean Wileman 92nd (38.00) and Andy Pawley 112th (39.52) as Ivanhoe fielded a decent sized squad given their other duties.

The Ivanhoe Runners ladies team was led home by Ruth Shaw who got amongst the male members as she finished 90th overall in an excellent 37.38. She was ably supported by Teresa Talbott with 40.09 (117th), Laura Graves 43.08 (137th), Ali Sturla 43.47 (146th) and Heather Swan 43.51 (147th). This was  great team performance by the ladies and they were rewarded with second BDSL team on the night, behind Peel RR.

Off the roads, three Ivanhoe Runners partook of their first ever fell race in the heatwave on Sunday at the Bakewell Pudding Race - Ian Bolton, Bart Reid & Roger Beaven. They loved it; about 6 1/2 miles with 700 foot of climbing nearly all in the first mile and with temperatures in the mid twenties, it was a strength-sapping morning's effort. From a flat start it was soon vertically up into the woods with slippery wet rocks, slippery tracks, and fallen trees to go over and under, taken at more of walk than a run. Then the terrain opened up with undulating grassland allowing Roger to pass Bart, who was suffering jet-lag and a two week's non-running holiday, whilst Ian was way off ahead. Then a bit of long, gentle descent to lose the height gain, followed by 3/4 mile on flat paths, and then  a delicious crossing of the wonderfully cooling river Wye to the finish line, and a free Bakewell pudding. Ian clocked 53 mins 5 secs, Roger 53 mins 35 secs, and Bart 55 mins 50 secs.

The Conkers 5k Parkruns continue to attract Ivanhoe Runners; in the 2nd July event, Ian Bolton (14th, 19.54), Laura Graves (39th, 25.10), Heather Swan (41st, 25.26) and Christine Robertson (84th, 40.51) took part.

Ivanhoe Runners sent a massive squad of 28 runners to contest the Swithland Six, the latest round in the Leicestershire Road Running league. Run over the unusual six mile distance, there were numerous "bests" set from improvement over last years times. First home was club chairman Brian Stout, 25th overall in 34.52. He led a powerful men's team, with Andy Hough next home in 33rd in 35.17, and Alistair Chambers third back in 39th place in 35.36. This was a great run for Alistair who just a week before had run the Wales Marathon in 3.14.27, a race from Tenby to Pembroke and back that took in roads and coastal paths that Alistair described as the toughest marathon he had ever done. Fourth home was Ivor Davies, 60th in 36.52, before Richard Martin stormed home in 38.25 (a new best) in 89th place.

Making up the scoring eight for league points were Martin Yeomans 116th (39.36), Andy Gillies 142nd (40.52) and Andy Jeyes 166th (41.47). Ian Boulton made a re-appearance for Ivanhoe Runners and clocked 42.10 (177th), ahead of Tim Sturla 42.55 (190th). Tim rounded off the day with a spritely dash after a team-member who had driven off with her phone on her car roof!

Leading the Ivanhoe women's team home was Ruth Shaw, finishing 268th overall in a fine 45.08. Team-mates closely packed behind her; Carolyn Osborne was 281st in 45.31 just ahead of Julia Blewitt-Jenkins 283rd in 45.37. A few seconds behind was Rosie Dear in 45.55 (291st). Richard Fluck got amongst them as he clocked 47.09 (319th), less than a minute ahead of Teresa Talbott 47.52 (338th). Lucilia Evans ran 49.13 (359th) just ahead of Fran Sinclair 49.30 (369th) and Amanda Bradbury 49.37 (373rd) - apparently Amanda spent much of the run looking for her mojo? Laura Graves was in close contention with a time of 50.17 (380th), and Heather Swan was one of several setting new six mile bests as she ran 51.22 (402nd).

Ali Sturla had a good run to clock 53.02 (423rd), ahead of Sally Jeyes 54.47 (451st), Brian Gough 56.13 (472nd) and Sophie Mcara 56.29 (475th). Elaine Moulton ran 57.20 (480th), before Val Walker 1.00.46 (501st) and Mary Gough 1.02.24 (510th) completed the strong team line-up.

The Bank Holiday weekend saw Ivanhoe Runners take part in a couple of local races. The Burton 10 was the latest round of the Burton and District summer league, and a small squad took part in the two lap race around Burton Washlands and surrounding area. First home was Alistair Chambers, 17th overall in 1.01.37. Next home was the ever-improving Richard Martin, 42nd in 1.06.29, an impressive time. Men's captain Martin Yeomans had a good run, 60th in 1.09.37 and with Ian Kirk finishing 121st in 1.17.17, a depleted men's team finished 5th in the league on the day. Attendance was partly impacted by the fact that Ivanhoe Runners are not focusing on this league, as the next fixture unfortunately clashes with the LRRL Swithland 10k on 12th June. The Ivanhoe Runners ladies team were similarly depleted, with two brave souls taking part - super-dependable Heather Swan finishing in 1.29.24 (199th) and Cathy Wood very pleased with her debut ten mile run, clocking 1.31.31 (213th). This placed the women's team 7th in the league placings.

Bank Holiday Monday saw the Oaks-in-Charnwood 6.5 mile race, a tough cross-country race taking in normally private land including Ives Head. A sizeable squad from Ivanhoe took part, including Tim and Ali Sturla, Bart Reid, Roger Beaven, Andy Pawley, Dave Mann, Ian Bolton, Keith Baron, Ivan Arkinstall and Trish McPherson, but the first member home was Martin Yeomans in 19th place in 53.26.

Ivanhoe Runners took part in the Leicestershire Road Running Summer League race at Desford, in the unusual distance of 1/4 marathon. On a hilly course and in windy conditions, first home and showing great form was Steve Baggott, 26th overall in 39.21, just getting the better of Brian Stout 28th in 39.28. Just behind was Stuart Douglas, clearly pretending to be Andrew Hough as ran under the pseudonym Stuart Dough, and finished 33rd in 39.39. Ramzi Sidani had another strong run after his recent marathon debut, claiming 41st place in 40.18, ahead of Kelvin Banbury 62nd in 41.55.

Richard Martin was next home in 81st place, clocking 42.56, some way ahead of arch-rival and men's captain Martin Yeomans, 101st in 44.16. Dave Morse ran 44.56 (117th), before A. Dutton finished in 50.29 (231st), and later also finished again in 61.49 (369th) - quite an achievement. Carolyn Osborne led the Ivanhoe ladies team home, clocking 52.17 (43rd female). She was less than a minute ahead of Julia Blewitt-Jenkins continuing her return from injury, clocking 52.59. Richard Fluck made a rare league appearance, and ran 53.42 in 285th place.

Teresa Talbott was 61st lady, running 56.35. She was half a minute ahead of ever-improving Katie Sewell, who clocked 57.04 (66th). Fran Sinclair was 74th lady, and clocked 57.54, ahead of Laura Graves 58.43 (82nd) and Heather Swan 58.59 (84th).

Meanwhile in the Edinburgh festival of running, Mel Ferrie had a brilliant run to clock 3.49.11 in the marathon - a great time. Also in the marathon, Brian Gough ran 5.19.20, while wife Mary Gough did the half-marathon, clocking 2.22.14.

In the White Peak marathon, run on disused railway tracks, the marathon machine that is Alistair Chambers ran a brilliant 3.02.34 to finish an excellent 4th, while in the half marathon Rosie Dear ran a very quick 1.46.36 to finish 84th overall.

Ivanhoe Runners adopted the Wymeswold Waddle 5 mile run as part of their grand prix series. A low key event run as part of the villages annual gala, the five mile out and back route proved an entertaining alternative the usual grand prix races. Given its rural nature, it was no surprise that Stuart Douglas was first back for the club in a brilliant 7th place in a time of 29.22. This gave Stuart 25 valuable grand prix points to help his personal bid for promotion. Stuart was only just ahead of club chairman Brian Stout, who was 9th in 29.39 as he comes back from injury. Men's captain Martin Yeomans was a fine 30th in 33.13, ahead of Andy Jeyes 34.59 in 47th place.

First Ivanhoe Runners lady home was Rosie Dear, 90th overall in 37.45. Next home was Carolyn Osborne 112th in 38.33, about a minute ahead of Julia Blewitt-Jenkins 39.29 (122nd), pleased to continue her comeback from injury. Newcomer Grant Stone ran a pleasing 40.33 to finish 142nd. Laura Graves and Katie Sewell ran together, and finished 157th (41.28) and 158th (41.30) respectively. Heather Swan ran a great time of 41.53 to finish 166th overall, while Cathy Wood was delighted with her time of 43.14 (189th) which was a new personal best. Elaine Moulton ran 46.57 (226th), before Sophie Mcara 48.24 (236th) and Brian Gough 48.24 (237th) finished together. Val Walker ran 51.19 to finish 257th, ahead of Mary Gough 51.51 (260th) and Tracey Smith 54.30 (272nd).

Three Ivanhoe Runners took part in the Oxford Town and Gown 10k, a very popular race with over 3,000 taking part over the day. It is also an annual family challenge amongst the Sanders family, and leading them home was Joe Sanders who had a great run to clock 44.55, much improved over his recent 10k times. Also having a great run was Judith Webster-Sanders, who cracked the 50 minute barrier as she clocked 49.31 - testament to recent speed training. Kevin Sanders had a disaster as a hamstring strain after just 2k slowed him down - he finished in 57.14. Amy Sanders had a great run, starting steadily then pushing through to set a new personal best of 1 hour exactly.
