The Swithland 10k was the latest round in the Leicestershire Road Race League and Ivanhoe Runners fielded strong men's and women's teams for the event. Run from Mountsorrel on a quick course that circled Swithland Reservoir, the event saw some great performances particularly from the newer club members. Leading them all home though was Andrew Hough, blasting round in 37.15 ahead of Alistair Chambers and Brian Stout who is struggling with an injury niggle but still clocked 38.08. Due to a problem with the results software, no official results and therefore n placing are yet available. Matt Morgan had a great run to be fourth Ivanhoe Runner home, just ahead of recent joiner Ian Bolton who had another great run to set another 10k personal best just weeks after setting one at Desford, as he clocked a fine 39.33. He just held off Kelvin Banbury, who also set a personal best of 39.35 in his third ever 10k. Continuing the personal bests, new member Richard Martin set a PB of 43.30 on his debut for the club - a great performance. Behind him was stalwart Martin Yeomans back from illness, clocking 43.46. Ivan Arkinstall ran 44.37 ahead of Kevin Sanders' 48.30, a time he was pleased with as it was a vast improvement over his mid-week time of 55.08 at the Levens 10k near Kendal, Cumbria (60th place) and kept him ahead of the chasing pack of the women's team. Leading that pack was Carolyn Osborne clocking 49.09, hotly pursued by Julia Blewitt-Jenkins in 49.14 - the joint ladies captain's setting a great example. Judith Webster-Sanders also improved on her Levens 10k time of 53.28 (58th place) to finish in around 51 minutes. Laura Graves ran 52.16 ahead of Heather Swann who had a brilliant run to crack out a new personal best time of 54.59. All of these performances were very encouraging particularly from the newer members of both the men's and women's teams setting personal bests, and positions both teams and the vets teams well up in the league.

In the recent Burton 10 miler. the latest race in the Burton and District Summer League, Ivanhoe Runners posted some great performances including numerous personal bests. First home was men's captain Alistair Chambers, clocking a fine 1.03.04 for 13th place, a good run after his recent marathon exploits. Matt Morgan had a great run for 18th place. 1.03.59, having clearly shaken off a succession of injuries. Dave Morse returned to form with a sub-70 minute time, clocking 1.09.55 in 47th place, ahead of a welcome return from illness for Martin Yeomans, finishing 70th in 1.14.12. Ivan Arkinstall was 73rd in 1.15.03, ahead of Tim Sturla 85th in 1.16.45. There were some great runs from the Ivanhoe women's team. Captain Julia Blewitt-Jenkins led the way with a great time of 1.19.28, a personal best by nearly three minutes and her first PB for four years. She was 100th overall, just ahead of Dave Mann 102nd in 1.19.45. Amanda Bradbury was another personal best-setter, knocking a minute off her best to clock 1.23.59 (121st), whilst both Teresa Talbott and Heather Swann debuted at the distance and met their standards goals in running 1.25.52 (133rd) and 1.29.51 (145th) respectively. Despite the number of regular team members missing due to the holiday season, Ivanhoe fielded two full strong teams and the runners turning out did very well to maintain the clubs position in the league standings.

The heat impacted runners in the Desford 10k, the first round in the Leicestershire Road Race Summer league; Ivanhoe's Mel Ferrie had a very fast run but collapsed just short of the line - she recovered well afterwards. Brian Stout led the men home in 29th after pulling a calf muscle and jogging the last kilometre - he finished in 36.56. Andy Hough was second home in 38.16 to claim 44th place, ahead of Ian Bolton amazingly setting a new personal best in 59th with a time of 39.48. Kelvin Banbury ran his first ever 10k race and was rewarded with a time of 39.59 in 62nd place. The "racing" Dave Morse turned up and ran 43.58 (122nd), ahead of Roger Beaven getting carried away with mountain marathon training and running his second race in two weeks - he clocked 46.50 in 170th. Ivan Arkinstall was 186th in 48.15, ahead of Dave Mann 202nd (49.13) and Ian Kirk, back from injury, 207th in 49.26.
Just ahead of Ian and first Ivanhoe woman home with Mel Ferrie's mishap was Julia Blewitt-Jenkins, 29th female in 49.25, just ahead of Carolyn Osbourne, 32nd female in 49.42. In the team results, the men finished third in Division Two placing them second overall behind Leicester Coritanians; the men's vet team lie in fifth in Division One. The women's team performed really strongly and were second team on the day behind Hinckley but lie second overall to Leicester Tri Club in Division Two but with a very real chance of catching them up and overtaking them. The women's vets lie fifth in Division One after finishing third on the day.
Edinburgh Marathon, White Peak Marathon

With Ivanhoe Runners in action over both 10k distance and the marathon last weekend, the very hot weather played a huge part in the proceedings. However in the Edinburgh Marathon, Andrew Jeyes defied the record May temperatures as he blazed round to another club vet 60 record, clocking 3.29.47 to finish 3rd vet60 in the race and finish 796th out of the 9,500 runners completing the distance. This would have been remarkable performance in good conditions, and even more so in the heat which saw temperatures rise from 10am as the sun coming out coincided with the marathon starting. Andy's target was to break 3.30 and so be eligible for a good for age number for the London Marathon, and after going through halfway in 1.39.28 he held it together brilliantly over the second half and broke his own club record which stood at 3.35.42 from Amsterdam in October 2008.
Kevin Sanders also did the marathon, after some recent good short distance runs but very little long distance training. Going through halfway in a reasonable 2.05.14 he fell apart in the heat and despite the fast coastal out and back route struggled home in 4.50.33 in 6,517th place to complete his 41st marathon. Andy Jeyes daughter Helen Chiles and friend Kelly James did Edinburgh as their debut marathons, after successfully running the Ashby 20, and both did extremely well in the heat to clock 4.10.54 in 3,505th and 3,503rd respectively. Sally Jeyes did the half marathon which was run in cool and damp conditions at 8am, and she was pleased with a time of 2.06.14 in 2,1174th place out of 3,700 competitors.
Alistair Chambers opted instead for the White Peak marathon on Saturday, starting at Thorpe and run over the reclaimed railway tracks that are now a compacted limestone and cinder surface that makes up the Tissington and High Peak trails. Alistair was 17th in 3.39.10, some way off his best reflecting the course and the conditions.

As the Spring marathon season continues, two Ivanhoe Runners recently took part in the Prague Marathon. Allan and Mel Ferrie were confident of a good run going into the race following sub-three hour times at the Ivanhoe 20, and they were both rewarded with great runs as Mel clocked 4.15.04 and Allan 4.15.12 for 3,215th and 3,221st places respectively for impressive debuts.
Elsewhere, Naomi Eaton set a new personal best as she clocked a fast 40.41 in the Bristol 10k, finishing 327th overall.
